USA: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi: “I Don’t Hate Modi………”
Washington, DC, US: During his recent visit to Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that he does not harbor hatred for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but rather empathizes with him. Gandhi emphasized the importance of differing perspectives, saying, “I don’t actually hate Mr. Modi. He has a point of view; I don’t agree with it, but I don’t hate him.” He articulated a belief in fostering empathy and compassion, which he sees as more productive than fostering division.
While addressing a variety of issues during his US trip, Gandhi criticized the ideological stance of the BJP and its parent organization, the RSS, asserting that Congress views India as a tapestry of ideas rather than a singular ideology. He highlighted the low participation of women in the Indian workforce, attributing it to outdated attitudes promoted by the BJP, which he claims enforces traditional roles for women. He expressed a belief that women should be encouraged to pursue their aspirations.
Gandhi also reflected on the recent Lok Sabha election results, suggesting that the “fear of BJP” has dissipated among the Indian populace, and underscored the importance of protecting constitutional values. On the subject of unemployment, he drew parallels between India and other countries like China, noting that while India struggles with job creation, nations like China and Vietnam do not face the same challenges.
The BJP reacted sharply to Gandhi’s comments, branding him a “black spot” on Indian democracy. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized Gandhi’s perceived immaturity and claimed that he fails to address pressing issues regarding China, alleging that Gandhi weakens India with his statements abroad. Bhatia also challenged the Congress party to disclose a purported memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China, which he argued further undermines Indian democracy.
In response to these attacks, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge defended Gandhi, asserting that he has never defamed India and that the BJP often seeks excuses to raise such criticisms.
